An unknown tapestry cycle of the Story of Joseph by a cryptic flemish cartoonist
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article deals with an unstudied cycle on the biblical Story of Joseph woven in Bruxelles between 1550 and 1565; an anonymous Flemish artist whose style was close to that of Michiel Coxcie designed the cartoons. The way the scenes are built - with the distinctive aspects of the story confined in the background - is a characteristic both of the artist and of this edition. A replica of one of the pieces is part of the collection of the University of Zaragoza and its place of weaving could be the centre of Enghien.
